President Bola Tinubu has signed into law the bills establishing development commissions for the South-West and South-South regions, bringing all six geopolitical zones under dedicated commissions aimed at addressing their developmental needs.
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, announced the development during Wednesday’s plenary session.

The move follows Tinubu’s approval of similar commissions for the South-East and North-West in July 2024. The commissions are expected to receive funding to implement projects tailored to the specific economic and infrastructural challenges of each region.
With all six zones now covered, the initiative is seen as part of broader efforts to drive regional development and enhance economic growth across Nigeria.
