US President Donald Trump has ordered the United States to withdraw from 66 international organisations, citing concerns that they no longer serve America’s national interests. The decision was announced in a statement by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, following an administration-wide review under Executive Order 14199.
Mr Rubio said 31 of the organisations are United Nations entities, while 35 are non-UN bodies. He said the administration concluded that many were mismanaged, redundant or advancing policies at odds with US priorities. Among those named are the United Nations Population Fund and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which the White House says operate contrary to US interests.
The directive instructs all federal departments and agencies to take immediate steps to complete the withdrawals. Since returning to office, President Trump has already moved the US out of the World Health Organisation, the Paris Climate Agreement, the UN Human Rights Council and the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.

The decision has drawn criticism from the European Union, which described the withdrawal from the UN climate framework as regrettable. The EU’s climate chief, Wopke Hoekstra, said the UNFCCC underpins global climate action, while the US State Department said Washington will now engage internationally only where cooperation delivers clear benefits to the American people.
