A court in Finland has sentenced the pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa to six years’ imprisonment for terrorism offences. The Päijät-Häme district court found him guilty of inciting terrorism and participating in the activities of a terrorist group.
The court ruled that Ekpa used his significant social media following to stoke tensions in Nigeria’s south-east region. His activities were said to have taken place between August 2021 and November 2024.

Judges also found that Ekpa was an influential member of a militant separatist movement seeking to create an independent Biafra nation. The court stated that he supplied weapons, explosives and ammunition to groups through a network of contacts in the region.
According to reports from the Finnish newspaper YLE, Ekpa was also found to have encouraged his followers on the social media platform X to commit crimes in Nigeria. The court case concluded with a six-year sentence after considering evidence against the accused.
