A coalition of women’s groups staged a protest in Benin City, Edo State, condemning the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Nigerian Senate.
Gathering at the Museum Ground before marching to the Edo State House of Assembly, Government House, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, the demonstrators carried placards with messages such as ‘Nigerian Women Rise Against Patriarchy’ and ‘The Injustice Will Not Be Sustained.’

The protest is part of growing opposition to the Senate’s decision to suspend Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months. One of the leaders of the protest, Mrs Grace Obakina, argued the move disregards the senator’s claims of sexual harassment, raising concerns about workplace safety and gender equity.
Addressing the protesters on behalf of the governor, Deputy Chief of Staff Pius Alile assured them that the petition would be reviewed, emphasising the state government’s commitment to gender justice.
