The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has secured a significant $750 million investment aimed at expanding electricity access to 17.5 million Nigerians. This ambitious move is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to enhance power distribution across underserved communities.
According to the REA, 1.5 million Nigerians have already benefited from interconnected mini-grids, resulting in more reliable electricity supply.
Abba Abubakar Aliyu, the agency’s Managing Director, announced the development during a Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit, themed ‘Breaking Barriers to the New Energy Era: Clean, Reliable and Sustainable’.
In his keynote address, titled ‘Sun, Wind, and Water: Harnessing Nigeria’s Renewable Power Potential,’ Mr Aliyu highlighted the global energy access crisis, noting that 885 million people worldwide still lack electricity.
