Relocate Now, Ogun Urges Residents In Flood-Prone Areas

The Ogun State government has alerted residents living in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer ground, or create higher elevations within their residences as the rainy season begins.

Speaking at a press conference on the 2024 flood alert, which was held in Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Tuesday, the state Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, said 16 out of the 20 local governments in the state are expected to have the highest rainfall.

Commissioner Oresanya also said farmers are encouraged to start planting from April, while those involved in poultry businesses are advised against stocking density during this stress period due to the predicted above-normal temperatures.

The Federal Government had written to 31 states, including Ogun State, about the impending flooding in between April and November this year.
