Remain Apolitical, President Tinubu Charges Nigerian Army

President Bola Tinubu has charged the Nigerian Army to remain apolitical and operate strictly within constitutional limits, stressing that its primary responsibility is to protect the nation and its citizens. He spoke at the opening of the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference in Lagos.

The President, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the Federal Government would continue to support the army to fulfil its mandate of safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity. He commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, and officers and soldiers for efforts to strengthen operational readiness, including the refurbishment of more than 100 armoured fighting vehicles and the induction of helicopters into army aviation.

Also speaking, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the Nigerian Army has remained central to preserving national unity and territorial integrity from independence to the present democratic era. He said security remains a fundamental requirement for development and lasting national progress.
