The House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy has given the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, 24 hours to appear before it and account for loans and grants totalling about N151 billion and $550 million.
The ultimatum follows repeated absences by Aliyu from previous invitations, including a public hearing in Abuja on Tuesday, and lawmakers warned that failure to comply could lead to his arrest by the Nigeria Police Force.
The funds under review were provided between 2015 and 2024, including government appropriations for solar mini-grids, home systems, and street lighting, as well as grants from the World Bank, African Development Bank, and international partners such as Germany and the European Union.

The committee stressed that accounting for these resources is critical for maintaining Nigeria’s credibility with development partners and ensuring effective delivery of electricity access, especially in rural areas where grid expansion is limited.
