The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has asked the Federal Government to suspend implementation of the new tax laws amid allegations that the versions gazetted differ from those passed by the National Assembly. The laws are scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026.
The call follows comments by the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, who said the implementation date for the Nigeria Tax Act and the Nigeria Tax Administration Act remain sacrosanct. He said the reforms were designed to reduce tax burdens on most workers and small businesses and promote economic growth.

In a statement signed by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, Minority Whip Ali Isa, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki, and Deputy Minority Whip George Ozodinobi, the caucus said implementation should be halted until investigations into the alleged alterations are concluded. The lawmakers said Nigerians and the business community were entitled to clarity on the laws they are expected to obey.
