The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to use African Union diplomatic channels to secure the release of soldiers held in Burkina Faso. The representatives made the call in Abuja, citing concerns over the wellbeing of the military personnel. They said the AU’s regional influence could help facilitate dialogue and pressure for the soldiers’ release.
The move follows the detention of the Nigerian soldiers during operations aimed at countering rising insecurity in West Africa. Lawmakers said prolonged captivity could affect morale and point to gaps in regional security cooperation. They also highlighted the need for stronger regional partnerships to address cross-border security threats.
