Republicans Criticize President Donald Trump For Inciting Mob That Invaded The Capitol

It has been two days after the world watched in astonishment and shock as violent pro-Trump protesters breached the capitol building in Washington DC in a bid to force Congress to undo outgoing President Trump’s election loss to President-elect Biden.

Most commentaries on the events in the American capital have been critical of President Trump with several calls for President Trump’s impeachment and some have come from members of the President’s own Republican Party.

Long-time Trump ally Tom Cotton, a senator from Arkansas, said in a statement, “Its past time for the president to accept the results of the election, quit misleading the American people, and repudiate mob violence.”

Also, Republican Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina pinned the blame for the mob that broke into the Capitol squarely on Trump. He said, “The President bears responsibility for today’s events by promoting the unfounded conspiracy theories that have led to this point,”

Burr said in a statement, noting that courts had already rejected Trump’s efforts to overturn his November election loss to Biden.
