Resign and Focus on Rivers Politics, APC National Secretary tells Wike

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to resign his appointment, accusing him of causing internal division within the ruling party. Senator Basiru said Mr Wike, who is not a member of the APC, lacks the authority to interfere in the party’s affairs, particularly in Rivers State.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, Senator Basiru said his comments followed Mr Wike’s warning that he should stay out of Rivers politics. He insisted that, as APC national secretary, his responsibilities extend beyond his home state of Osun and include protecting the interests of the party and respecting sitting governors as party leaders in their states, including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Senator Basiru also dismissed Mr Wike’s allegation that APC leaders were seeking access to 600 billion naira in Rivers State funds, describing the claim as blackmail and challenging the minister to provide proof.
