Retired Police Officers Protest Poor Welfare in Abuja and Jalingo

Retired police officers held peaceful protests in Abuja and Jalingo on Monday, calling for better welfare, payment of outstanding pensions, and an end to the contributory pension scheme.

The demonstration in Abuja was joined by activist Omoyele Sowore, who urged the federal government to recognise the sacrifices of retired officers and address years of neglect.

In Jalingo, Taraba State, protesters carried placards demanding full gratuity and complete exit from what they described as the “deadly” police pension scheme.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had earlier directed all Commissioners of Police to ensure the safety of the protesting retirees and cautioned against misinformation about the demonstrations.
