The Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has appointed administrators for the 23 Local Government Areas across the state. The appointments, approved by the state government, follow the Supreme Court’s ruling which nullified the October 5, 2024, local government elections.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Worika, the appointments take effect from Monday, April 7. The Administrator also approved the reconstitution of boards of some state agencies, commissions, and parastatals that were previously suspended.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has scheduled April 14 to hear a suit seeking to halt the appointments. The suit was filed by human rights lawyer Courage Nsirimovu of the Pilex Centre for Civic Education Initiative.
Presiding Judge, Justice Adamu Mohammed, declined to issue a restraining order but directed that the state administrator be put on notice. He said the respondent must appear in court to show cause why the appointments should not be stopped.
