Rivers Administrator Swears in New Chairmen from Rivers LG Polls

The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Rtd.), has sworn in newly elected chairmen of the state’s 23 local government councils. The ceremony at Government House followed the issuance of certificates of return by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

Saturday’s polls, held across more than 6,000 polling units, saw the All Progressives Congress win 20 local governments, while the Peoples Democratic Party secured just two. It marks the APC’s first dominance in Rivers State since 1999. The party also claimed councilor seats in 20 councils, with the PDP managing only three.

RSIEC Chairman, Mr.Michael Odey, declared the results in Port Harcourt on Sunday. Turnout was mixed with rural communities reporting heavy participation, while urban centres recorded uneven numbers.

Some chairmen are returning for a second term, having served previously under former Governor Nyesom Wike. No other political party contested the elections.
