The Rivers State House of Assembly has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara 48 hours to submit a fresh list of commissioner nominees, accusing him of bypassing constitutional procedures.
In a letter dated 5 March, Speaker Martin Amaewhule-led lawmakers alleged that the governor unlawfully swore in 19 commissioners without legislative screening and confirmation. They also cited additional appointments, including the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, which they claim required assembly approval.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the Amaewhule-led assembly and other elected lawmakers should resume legislative activities. The court also upheld a previous federal high court ruling barring the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Accountant-General of the Federation from disbursing statutory allocations to Rivers State.
The developments deepen the political crisis in the oil-rich state, where a rift between the governor and the assembly continues to fuel tensions over governance and constitutional adherence.
