The Rivers State House of Assembly has halted the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu following efforts by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Lawmakers took the decision during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Thursday. The impeachment process had begun earlier this year amid allegations of gross misconduct levelled against the governor and his deputy.

The assembly’s decision came after a court previously restrained the lawmakers from progressing the impeachment and after President Tinubu held talks with key political leaders to ease tensions.
