Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt after six months away from office. He arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday afternoon at 12:19 p.m, where he was received by a large crowd of supporters.
Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been out of governance since March, when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as sole administrator. The move followed a political crisis that split the state assembly and deepened tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The House of Assembly resumed sitting on Thursday, but the governor did not return to the Government House despite the presence of supporters awaiting him. The FCT Minister, Wike, has in an interview said that Fubara is not obliged to resume immediately.
Admiral Ibas formally handed back power on Wednesday, urging political leaders in the state to embrace dialogue. The President had earlier met with Fubara, Wike and other stakeholders in June in a bid to reconcile the warring factions.
