Rivers State Demands Refund as NBA Relocates 2025 Conference

The Rivers State Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has rejected claims by the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, that a ₦300 million payment from the state government was a gift, insisting it was tied to hosting rights for the NBA’s 2025 Annual General Conference.

His response follows the NBA’s decision to relocate the event from Port Harcourt to Enugu, which he described as a breach of trust and lacking ethical justification.

In a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Hector Igbikiowubo, the retired naval chief said the funds were disbursed under a clear understanding that Rivers State would host the legal body’s flagship gathering.

He criticised what he termed the NBA’s unilateral move and warned that, unless the sum is refunded promptly, the state would be compelled to pursue legal avenues to recover the funds.
