Newcomers Barau FC’s seven-match unbeaten run came to an end as they fell 1-0 to Rivers United in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League week 25 match in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. Stephen Manyo, a former Katsina United defender, scored the only goal in the 85th minute.
Barau FC had beaten Rivers United 4-1 in the first leg of the season, their biggest NPFL win to date. Rivers United’s victory lifts them to the top of the league table with 46 points, ahead of Ikorodu United, who have 45 points from 27 matches.
The win marked Rivers United’s second in their rescheduled fixtures, following a 1-1 draw against Kwara United. The team has three remaining matches: against El-Kanemi Warriors on March 4, 3SC on March 12, and Niger Tornadoes on March 19.

Under new Head Coach Eugene Agagbe, Barau FC had remained unbeaten in seven matches since January, with three wins and four draws. The side climbed to 13th in the standings before Wednesday’s defeat.
