Benin Republic’s head coach, Gernot Rohr, says his side is determined to secure a win over the Super Eagles in Uyo as World Cup qualification nears its climax. The veteran German, who managed Nigeria between 2016 and 2021, guided the team to the 2018 World Cup and an AFCON bronze in 2019 before his dismissal ahead of the 2021 tournament.
Now 72, Rohr is seeking redemption against his former employers after Benin’s 2024 victory over Nigeria — their first in the qualifiers.

Benin currently top Group C with 17 points from nine games, while Nigeria, three-time African champions, are under pressure to win and revive their 2026 World Cup hopes. Ninety minutes in Uyo could decide both nations’ qualification fate.
