Over 460 patients and their companions have reportedly been killed by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces in an attack on a maternity hospital in El-Fashar, North Darfur. According to the Sudan Doctors’ Network, the RSF stormed the Saudi Hospital over the weekend, killing everyone inside as the group took control of the city after an 18-month siege.
The incident marks one of the deadliest assaults since the conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army began in April 2023. The attack came amid reports of abductions of health workers and repeated strikes on medical facilities across the region.

The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed that five of its volunteers were killed in a separate incident in North Kordofan. WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said the organisation is “deeply shocked,” noting that the agency has verified 185 attacks on health care in Sudan since the war began, killing over 1,200 people.
The United Nations estimates that more than 30 million people in Sudan now need urgent humanitarian aid, describing the crisis as one of the world’s largest displacement and hunger emergencies. The RSF currently controls most of western Sudan, including the capital, Khartoum.
