Russia and Ukraine Conduct Fresh Prisoner Exchange

Russia and Ukraine have carried out a new prisoner swap, each releasing 185 captives in what remains one of the few areas of cooperation between the warring nations. Moscow confirmed that its servicemen and 20 civilians were freed, while Kyiv announced the return of both soldiers and civilians.

President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the exchange, noting that over 7,000 Ukrainians have now been brought home since the start of the conflict. Images shared by Kyiv showed returning prisoners wrapped in national flags, smiling as they reunited with compatriots.

Despite stalled peace talks and heavy losses on both sides since the 2022 invasion, such exchanges continue regularly. Alongside prisoner swaps, both nations have also arranged repatriations of fallen soldiers. These limited agreements underline the few humanitarian channels still open as the wider war grinds on without resolution.
