The Kremlin has dismissed reports suggesting that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump recently urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to avoid escalating the Ukraine conflict. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Monday labelled the reports as “pure fiction,” denying that any such conversation took place.
“There was no conversation,” Peskov told reporters, emphasising that the claim was “completely untrue” and an example of unreliable information circulating in the media. He added that even reputable publications sometimes publish inaccurate reports.
When asked about potential future discussions between Putin and Trump, Peskov said, “There are no concrete plans yet.”
The Washington Post initially reported that Trump made the call from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Thursday. However, Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, declined to confirm, stating, “We do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders.”
