Russian strikes kill 19 People, wound dozens across Ukraine

At least 19 people have been killed and dozens more injured in Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, the country’s emergency service reported. The strikes came as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy travelled to Turkiye to push for renewed peace talks over the ongoing war.

In Ternopil, 19 people died and 66 others, including 16 children, were injured after a multistorey residential building was hit. Russian attacks also damaged energy facilities in the Lviv region and caused power outages across several regions. In Kharkiv, more than 10 apartment buildings, a school, a supermarket, and an ambulance substation were damaged, injuring at least 36 people.

Meanwhile, Moscow claimed Ukrainian forces fired four US-supplied ATACMS missiles at Voronezh, targeting civilian areas. Russia said its air defences intercepted the missiles, and falling debris damaged a retirement home, an orphanage, and one house, with no casualties reported. Ukraine said the strikes targeted military sites in Russia.

The attacks prompted neighbouring Poland to temporarily close Rzeszow and Lublin airports and scramble allied aircraft. Zelenskyy is seeking additional air defence systems from European allies to counter Russia’s escalating missile and drone strikes.
