The latest US air strikes follow a Houthi announcement that they would resume targeting Israeli-linked vessels off Yemen’s coast, in response to Israel’s tightening blockade on Gaza. No such attacks have been reported since that statement.
The Houthis have previously launched more than 100 attacks on merchant vessels using missiles and drones. Since the start of the war in Gaza, their campaign has resulted in two ships being sunk and four sailors killed.
