Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, leader of the Tijanniyah Sufi Order in Nigeria, has met with the coup leaders in Niger Republic.
The military junta met with the former Central Bank Governor and 14th Emir of Kano after declining a scheduled meeting with representatives from the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and diplomats from the United States of America.
Speaking to the press after meeting with President Bola Tinubu last night, the Khalifa said he was not sent by the government, although government officials were aware of his trip.

He added that the visit was his personal initiative and he used his personal contacts to get there.Â
The Sufi leader says he was well received by the military junta in Niger and will continue to do his best, because it is his duty as a leader.Â
