Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has apologised to residents affected by the severe traffic congestion caused by repair work on the Independence Bridge. The closure of the bridge on Wednesday evening left thousands of commuters stranded, with images and videos of the gridlock circulating widely on social media.
Following the public outcry, the governor visited the site on Thursday morning to assess the ongoing repairs. Speaking to journalists, Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the inconvenience caused and admitted that authorities should have communicated better with residents before the closure.

He assured Lagosians that steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence and pledged improved coordination between government agencies and the public on major infrastructure projects.
The repairs on the Independence Bridge are part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure in Lagos. However, the sudden closure highlighted the need for better planning and public awareness to mitigate the impact on daily commuters.
