Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has ordered the demolition of the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance building in Lagos. The decision followed an in-person inspection of the structure by the governor on Thursday afternoon.
Governor Sanwo Olu said reports from structural engineers showed that the building has serious integrity issues. He said the condition of the structure poses a danger to lives and nearby properties.
The governor said the Lagos State Government acted to prevent a possible building collapse. Regulatory agencies had earlier flagged the structure during routine safety assessments.
