Senate Advances Tinubu’s N58.47 Trillion 2026 Budget

The Senate in Abuja has passed President Bola Tinubu’s N58.47 trillion 2026 appropriation bill for second reading. Senate leadership confirmed the move after plenary debate on the general principles of the spending plan presented by the executive. The budget outlines proposed funding for security, infrastructure, education, healthcare and debt servicing.

Lawmakers said the bill reflects the administration’s economic direction amid inflationary pressures and revenue challenges. Several senators raised concerns about projected oil output, borrowing levels and funding for capital projects across states.

The bill has now been referred to relevant committees for further scrutiny, where sectoral allocations and assumptions will be examined. The outcome of the process is expected to shape federal spending priorities and fiscal stability in the coming year.
