The Senate has approved a ₦124.2 billion budget for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for the 2024 fiscal year, aimed at strengthening law enforcement operations nationwide.
The approval followed the adoption of a report presented by Senator Yunus Akintunde, Vice Chairman of the Police Affairs Committee, during Wednesday’s plenary.
The budget allocates ₦1.2 billion for personnel costs and ₦98.6 billion for capital projects, including training, station upgrades, and infrastructure development.

Also included are funds for renovating police barracks and clinics, alongside the acquisition of compressed natural gas vehicles to enhance mobility and reduce carbon emissions.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed the allocation, stating it would significantly contribute to national security. He called for strict oversight to ensure accountability.
Established to supplement police funding, the Trust Fund is intended to improve training, welfare, and operational readiness across the force.
