The Senate has told Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that she cannot resume her duties yet, despite the expiration of her six-month suspension. In a letter dated 4 September, Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr Yahaya Danzaria, said her return would have to wait until a Court of Appeal case she filed against the Senate is resolved.
The upper chamber explained that her suspension, which began on 6 March, remains in force and cannot be reviewed while the matter is before the court. It said no administrative action could be taken until the judicial process is concluded.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March following allegations of insubordination after she refused to accept a change of her designated seat during plenary. The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions recommended her suspension, which also stripped her of aides, office privileges and salaries.
The lawmaker has challenged her suspension in court, arguing it was linked to her petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, a claim dismissed by the chamber.
