The Chairman of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Customs and Tariffs, Senator Isah Jibrin, has called for the immediate enforcement of the 4 percent Free-On-Board (FOB) charge as stipulated by law. He made the call on Monday during an engagement with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
Senator Jibrin questioned the continued delay in implementing the provision, asking why a law already passed should be subjected to further debate or defence. He insisted that the FOB charge should be enforced without delay in line with existing legislation.
Following his remarks, the motion was put to a voice vote and was unanimously adopted by the committee, affirming support for the immediate implementation of the 4 percent FOB charge.
The committee also urged the finance minister to fast-track the release and application of funds earmarked for Customs modernisation. This includes a ₦50 billion project awaiting Federal Executive Council approval.
