The Senate has called for an investigation into the recent demolitions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and has established an investigative committee to probe the matter. The committee will also invite the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to explain the reasons behind the demolitions, which have displaced many residents.
The motion, moved by Senator Ireti Kingibe of the FCT Senatorial District, raised concerns over the illegal demolition of structures in the capital and called for an immediate halt to any further demolitions. The Senate has tasked the committee with investigating the issue and providing a report within a specified timeframe.

In addition, the Senate summoned the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC to explain the company’s refusal to attend previous invitations regarding the Odukpani-Itu Highway project and to provide details of their role in the project, despite receiving substantial public funds amounting to over N18 billion.
