Senate Rejects Motion Seeking Release Of Nnamdi Kanu

The Senate yesterday, rejected a request for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The resolution followed the consideration and adoption of a motion sponsored by Senator Osita Izunaso representing Imo West District and co-sponsored by all other senators from the south-east region.

Senator Izunaso noted that thousands of innocent lives had been lost since an illegal sit-at-home order began in the region and property worth over a trillion naira had been destroyed.

The Senate declined a request to urge the federal government to use a political solution in handling the matter of Mr. Kanu given an ongoing litigation on the matter.

The lawmakers observed a minute silence in honour of those who had lost their lives as a result of the activities of sit-at-home enforcers.
