The Nigerian Senate has announced new dates for the zonal public hearing on constitutional review for the North West, now set to take place on July 18 and 19 in Kano.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who chairs the Constitution Review Committee, confirmed the change on Wednesday, citing respect for the late elder statesman Alhaji Aminu Dantata, whose burial in Saudi Arabia on June 30 prompted the earlier postponement.

The event, originally planned for July 4 and 5, had been suspended during a Senate-led mourning period for the Kano-born philanthropist.
Senator Barau called on lawmakers from the region’s 21 senatorial districts to encourage robust public participation.
He also urged civil society groups, community leaders, and individuals to submit memoranda, describing the hearing as a vital platform for citizens to shape the country’s constitutional future.
