The Senate has suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months following her dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The suspension was based on recommendations from the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct, citing her alleged violation of Senate Standing Rules and bringing the legislative body into disrepute.
Efforts by some senators to reduce the suspension to three months were overruled by a majority vote, with the Senate maintaining its initial decision. However, lawmakers noted that the suspension could be lifted or reduced if the Kogi Central senator submits a written apology.Â

Following the announcement, Akpoti-Uduaghan was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-At-Arms. Before leaving, she condemned the decision, declaring that “this injustice would not be sustained.”
Her suspension marks the latest chapter in the ongoing controversy surrounding her confrontation with the Senate leadership, raising further concerns about internal divisions within the legislative body.
