Senator Ike Ekweremadu Denied Bail as Wife, Beatrice gets bail in UK Court

Beatrice Ekweremadu, the wife of former deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu has been granted bail by a court in England.  

Meanwhile, Senator Ike Ekweremadu is denied bail.  

According to the Common Serjeant of London, judge Richard Marks, Mrs Ekweremadu is granted bail subject to some fairly stringent conditions. 

Prosecutors are however not appealing the decision.  

Mrs Beatrice was charged with facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, between August 1 last year and May 5, under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, while Senator Ekweremadu is charged with conspiracy to arrange travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting. 

The couple are due to appear at the Old Bailey court on 4 August.
