Nigeria’s unbeaten run at the 2025 AfroBasket has ended after a 91–75 quarterfinal defeat to Senegal in Luanda. The loss means Senegal have now knocked Nigeria out at the same stage for the fifth consecutive time.
Senegal’s Brancou Badio delivered a standout performance with 32 points, while Jean Jacques Boissy and Amar Sylla’s three-pointers in the second quarter gave their side a decisive lead. Nigeria, who had edged the first quarter 24–23, were unable to recover as Senegal went on a 13–5 run before halftime and stretched their advantage to 24 points in the third.

The victory sends Senegal into Saturday’s semifinals, where they will face Mali, a team they defeated 80–70 in the group stage. The AfroBasket final will be played on Sunday, August 24.
The defeat adds another chapter to the long-running rivalry between the two West African nations. Nigeria had held a slight edge in previous competitive meetings with five wins to Senegal’s four, but Senegal have now won their last two encounters, including a 93–87 triumph at the 2023 pre-Olympic qualifiers in Lagos.
