Seven kidnap victims have been rescued by security operatives in a forest near Owa-Onire in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. Their release followed a gun battle with bandits after Tuesday’s attacks in Motokun and Agboro communities of Patigi Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled deeper into the forest during the exchange of fire. One vigilante personnel sustained a gunshot injury but is responding to treatment.

The rescued victims include 23-year-old Adam Khadijat, 24-year-old Mamud Miriam, 17-year-old Mumini Ahmed, 44-year-old Hamadu Haruna, 16-year-old Abibat Umaru, and Afusatu Alhaji Ladan with her nine-month-old son Usman. They have since been debriefed and reunited with their families.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, praised the operatives for their “gallantry and resilience” and vowed to sustain operations against criminal hideouts. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and provide timely information to security agencies.
