Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has spoken about the profound impact the death of her mentor, Sound Sultan, had on her career. She revealed that his passing in 2021 left her struggling to find the will to continue making music, describing the loss as deeply personal and destabilising.
Seyi Shay recalled how Sound Sultan had played a pivotal role in her entry into the Nigerian music industry, offering her support and guidance from the moment she arrived in the country. His death, she admitted, made completing her Nigerian Idol duties extremely difficult.

At the same time, the singer discovered she was pregnant with her daughter. Faced with grief and the pressures of the industry, she chose to step back from music, saying she wanted to protect her mental health and shield her child from the toxic environment of the entertainment world.
