Shehu Sani Proposes Law to Curb Budget Padding by Lawmakers

Civil rights activist and politician, Senator Shehu Sani, has suggested enacting a law to prevent lawmakers from altering budgets presented by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as a solution to curb budget padding. In a social media post on Tuesday, Sen. Sani expressed doubts about lawmakers’ willingness to pass such a law, noting the challenges it might face even during the first reading.

His statement comes ahead of the Appropriations Committee’s meeting with key finance officials, including the Ministers of Finance and Budget & Economic Planning, scheduled for Tuesday, 7th January 2025. The meeting aims to discuss pressing budgetary issues.
