Traditional musician John Zuya, popularly known as John Mai Molo, has died after reportedly eating poisoned food. The singer passed away in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State under distressing circumstances. Reports say he became violently ill shortly after eating upon returning from a trip to Lagos, where he had performed at several cultural events.
He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival. His colleague, Emma Wakili, announced the death in a Facebook post, revealing that Zuya died on Saturday around seven in the morning.

Wakili said an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the singer’s death. He described Zuya as more than a friend, saying his passing has left behind “a cloud of unanswered questions.” The late musician’s body has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
John Mai Molo was widely celebrated across northern Nigeria for his contributions to traditional music and cultural preservation. He gained prominence with songs like Abar Matasa and Chaskale, both collaborations with Emma Wakili.
