Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have killed six worshippers and injured three others in an attack on a mosque in the Dadinkowa community, Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The gunmen opened fire on Wednesday evening while prayers were underway.
The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, said the assault was a reprisal following a failed ambush on troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division. He said the General Officer Commanding, Major General Bemgha Koughna, came under heavy gunfire on 24 February while travelling near Mayama Hill to visit frontline troops.
Police said soldiers returned fire and killed five suspected members of the Lakurawa group, foiling the ambush. Authorities believe the mosque attack followed that confrontation.
