Sixteen Rivers Assembly Members Defect to APC

Sixteen lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaker Martin Amaewhule announced the defections during plenary on Friday, confirming that he too has formally left the PDP. He told colleagues he had written to his ward chairman and is now an APC member, adding that joining the ruling party aligns with his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The lawmakers who defected alongside the speaker include Dumle Maol, Major Jack, Linda Stewart, Franklin Nwabochi, Azeru Opara, Smart Adoki, Enemi George, Solomon Wami, Igwe Aforji, Tekena Wellington, Looloo Opuende, Peter Abbey, Arnold Dennis, Chimezie Nwankwo, and Ofiks Kabang.

Their move comes just two days after the 32-member assembly passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and urged him to seek re-election, a motion raised by House Leader Major Jack.
