Martins Vincent Otse, the outspoken online personality widely known as VeryDarkMan, or VDM, has been released from custody following his detention by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the release on Wednesday evening, days after the social critic was taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
VDM was detained last Friday after accompanying his mother to a Guaranty Trust Bank branch in Abuja to address complaints of unauthorised withdrawals from her account.

His arrest triggered a wave of condemnation on social media, with prominent voices and members of the public calling for his immediate release.
The EFCC later stated that Otse was arrested in connection with several petitions alleging financial misconduct. According to the commission, efforts to reach him through official channels were unsuccessful, necessitating the intervention.
