Residents of Mogadishu have voted in the city’s first direct local election in more than five decades. Somali authorities confirmed the development in the capital.
Officials said voters elected district council representatives. The election marked a shift from the previous clan based indirect selection system.
Security forces were deployed across Mogadishu to maintain order and ensure a peaceful exercise.
