African champions Banyana Banyana have joined Nigeria in the Round of 16 of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The South Africans achieved the feat for the first time after a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Italy in one of the last Group G fixtures.

After the two teams cancelled out each other’s lead, captain Thembi Kgatlana converted in injury time from Hildah Magaia’s low cross.
The win will see South Africa take on former European champions the Netherlands in the Round of 16 on Sunday, 6 August.
