Southwest governors have renewed calls for the creation of state police, citing rising insecurity across their states. Meeting in Ibadan, the forum urged the Federal Government to strengthen surveillance of the region’s vast forest belts, which they say have become safe havens for criminal groups. They also requested federal support to deploy forest guards, while states provide the necessary personnel.
In a communiqué read by Lagos governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the six governors agreed to establish a Southwest Security Fund under the DAWN Commission, to be managed by their security advisers. They also adopted a unified digital communication network to improve intelligence sharing and rapid response.

The forum raised concerns over unregulated interstate migration and called for tighter border management to prevent security threats in the region.
