Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, has been granted bail in the sum of ₦10 million, with one surety in like amount. The court, presided over by Justice Musa Liman, set out clear conditions for the bail, including that the surety must be a responsible individual with landed property valued at ₦10 million or more. The surety is also required to deposit the original documents of the property and a passport photograph with the court’s registrar.
The trial judge further ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the registrar as part of the bail conditions. Sowore is facing charges of cybercrime, which include accusations that he posted defamatory comments about the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on his social media handle.

The police allege that on December 20, 2024, Sowore referred to Egbetokun as the “illegal IG of Nigeria Police Force” in a post, and claimed that the IGP would “destroy the Nigeria police” unless immediate action was taken. Sowore is also accused of posting a photo of Egbetokun with a caption that called the police force corrupt and incompetent.
Sowore has pleaded not guilty to the 16 charges brought against him, which are related to alleged offences committed through his use of social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter). His legal team maintains that the charges are politically motivated.
